Remapping changes some parameters of the engine management software. It can alter throttle response and torque delivery, but the result depends on many factors. Here is what is worth knowing before you decide.
The vehicle must be in good condition
Before the work, errors, filters, spark plugs, fuel supply, clutch and transmission are checked. If there are problems with the engine, turbo, injectors, exhaust or transmission, it is better to fix them first: a remap does not remove them and may bring them to light.
Realistic expectations
There are no values that are valid for everyone. The effect depends on the engine, the software version and the calibration. Be wary of anyone who promises identical percentages for every vehicle, guaranteed power increases and certain fuel savings: consumption depends mainly on driving style and route.
Warranty and software traces
Modifying the software can affect the manufacturer's warranty on the engine and transmission and leave traces that can be detected with the official tools. Ask to talk about it openly before going ahead.
Restoring the original configuration
When technically possible, the original ECU file is kept, so you can consider restoring it. Ask whether this is planned and how it works.
