Timing chain

Checking and replacing the timing chain of BMW and MINI, with a diagnosis of the symptoms before deciding on the work.

The timing chain keeps essential engine components synchronised. Abnormal noises, wear or problems with the tensioning system must not be ignored. Some versions of the N47 and N57 engines are known to need particular attention.

When to contact us

If you hear a metallic noise at start-up, ticking or rattling from the engine, if the noise changes with engine speed, if timing errors appear, starting is irregular or performance drops. These symptoms do not automatically mean the chain must be replaced: a check is needed.
